The Challenge Facing Electrification Programmes

Electrification programmes continue to face intense pressure to deliver more route miles at lower cost. While progress has been made, cost, access constraints, and programme disruption remain major barriers to scalable delivery.

One of the most significant cost drivers in both construction and long-term maintenance is track possession. Rising passenger numbers and increasingly constrained access windows reduce the time available to work on live rail infrastructure, increasing programme risk and overall cost.

Addressing these constraints requires solutions that reduce on-track time, simplify installation, and support more efficient delivery, without compromising performance or safety.

Twin Track Cantilever

Key Advantages of Omnia Include:

Omnia TTC

Faster to assemble and install
Reduced on-site assembly supports quicker installation within limited possession windows.

Omnia TTC

Easily adjustable for maintenance
Adjustments can be made without full component replacement.

Omnia TTC

Fewer tools required
Simplified installation reduces tooling needs on site.

Omnia TTC

Corrosion-resistant materials throughout
Selected to support long-term durability in exposed rail environments.

Omnia TTC

Fewer points of failure
Simplified design using just 11 components.

Omnia TTC

Factory-controlled quality and traceability
Manufactured under controlled conditions to ensure consistent quality and traceability.

Omnia TTC

Less time working at height
Design minimises work at height during installation and maintenance.

Omnia TTC

Lighter product for linesmen
Optimised component weight supports safer handling.

Omnia TTC

Reduced visual impact
Lower profile structure helps minimise visual intrusion along the route.

The new Omnia Twin Track Cantilever builds on those basic qualities and combines a pair of the approved Station Platform Omnia Cantilevers to cover two tracks from a single mast. The current arrangement has a system height of 1400mm and a maximum reach of 8.7m. Should a longer reach be required, bespoke arrangement studies are also available.

Thanks to the simplicity at the heart of the Omnia design, there are a number of savings to come from this latest Omnia evolution.

Indicative Cost and Programme Benefits

Omnia TTC

Material savings of circa £3,000 per location
Compared with a traditional steel lattice twin track cantilever.

Omnia TTC

Lower possession costs
Installing a single mast rather than a lattice structure reduces on-track time.

Omnia TTC

Reduced plant requirements
Lower plant demand supports more efficient site working.

Omnia TTC

Reduced labour requirements
Faster installation reduces overall labour time on site.

Omnia TTC

Reduced foundation loading
Lower overall weight reduces loading requirements at the foundation.

Omnia TTC

Faster installation
Quicker installation supports earlier project completion.

Omnia TTC

Material savings of circa £1,500 per location
Compared with two single cantilever masts.

Bonomi and Omnia

In summary, this development of the Omnia cantilever offers real savings for electrifying lines across materials, time, and plant. It also delivers maintenance savings through its wide adjustment range of 750mm and the use of common spares with the Omnia cantilever. Discussions with installers suggest that the overall saving could be up to £10K per location.
